Specializes in:

As a San Diego-based, California-licensed psychotherapist, I assist my clients in achieving their goals and becoming the men and women they want to be. I love my work and am committed to my clients' personal growth. I work well with motivated, higher functioning individuals and couples committed to their growth and development.

I specialize in the following areas:
Individual (1-to-1) Therapy:
• anxiety, worry and panic attacks
• self-esteem and assertiveness
• recovery from physical, verbal and/or
   sexual abuse
• sex and sexuality
• depression, grief and loss
• addictive behavior (e.g., sex, eating,
   workaholism, overspending)
• somatic relational psychotherapy

Relationship Therapy:

A good relationship is like a precious jewel and should be treated that way. If you and your partner have drifted apart, are taking each other for granted, or are having the same arguments over- and-over again, relationship therapy can make the difference between giving up and working through your obstacles. In our work together, I can help you and your partner to deepen your relationship and create a new level of satisfaction and fulfillment.

Free Telephone Consultation:

I offer potential clients - both individuals and couples - a free telephone consultation so you can ask me any questions you may have before scheduling your first session.

My Office:

My practice is located in the Kensington area of San Diego, at the intersection of Marlborough Drive and Hilldale Road (north of Adams Avenue). There is plenty of free street parking. The office is easily accessible from the 8 and 15 freeways.

Publications, Workshops & Columns:

I write the "Life Beyond Therapy" column for the Gay & Lesbian Times (San Diego, California), the Erie Gay News (Erie, Pennsylvania), the Gayzette (Lincoln, Nebraska), The Letter (Louisville, Kentucky) and Out & About (Nashville, Tennessee). I am a contributor to Instinct magazine (national), Lavender Lens magazine (San Diego), The Bottom Line magazine (Palm Springs). and the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. My weekly column - "Life Beyond Therapy" - appears on the Out in America Cities Network, the most popular city- based LGBT destination on the Internet. A monthly average of 7 million households throughout North America and Europe visit at least one of the 178 individual websites within the Out in America Cities Network.

BIO:

Born in Northern Ohio (the oldest of four children), I grew up in a small town of two thousand sassy farmers. I was named after my great-grandfather Michael, who reportedly had the first Ford dealership in the State of Ohio (he ran it out of his hardware store). Eventually, I escaped the farm and made it to the big city of Cincinnati, where I earned a B.A. in Personnel and Group Development. I spent my junior year abroad at the University of Bath (UK) and my spring break that year studying photography in Moscow (USSR).

After graduation, I moved to London (UK) where I managed a punk clothing store and sang in pubs. During my 20's and 30's, I lived in Egypt, Denmark, France and (the former) Yugoslavia. After returning to the USA, I worked in personnel and human resources and then earned a Master's Degree in Developmental Psychology while interning for "Sesame Street" in New York City.

In San Francisco, I was the Clinical Director for the Homeless Children's Network, earned my second Master's Degree and was a Middle School Counselor in the San Francisco Public Schools. In San Diego, I've worked as a licensed psycho- therapist for Kaiser Permanente (Point Loma Psychiatry), San Diego Hospice and Psychiatric Centers at San Diego. I opened my private practice in 2002.

They are specifically trained to work with the relationship between the mind, emotions, and the body. Additional hours of supervision qualify a graduate for certification as a Bioenergetic Therapist (CBT).

Bioenergetic Therapists have faced their own journey of self-exploration and offer support and encouragement to you as you face your own path to awareness and growth.
